Thangalaan

The story tells of Thangalaan, a motherless tribal leader. They help Lord Clement, a British General, to trace gold in their village. Aarathi is apparently a sorceress, and the villagers seek the gold while she is apparently a sorceress who they earn her wrath. Thangalaan was as arrogant and powerful man as Aarathi and he sets out because he can, and a series of events that force the tribal people’s struggles and make the people stronger. The film combines historical fiction, adventure, fantasy and some folklore driven magical realism.

Thangalaan Movie Explained

Thangalaan is dedicatedly a historical drama with much more than that including being multiplicity of layers which sets out to highlight exploitation, resistance and culture identity. The generation trauma is intense and there is a magic realism overlay of the politically entrenched state of affairs of those times. Pa. Ranjith has come with a bold film translating itself visually and thematically. The fight for dignity and justice for the tribal community is beautifully described in particular by the climax.

Unlike consular relations, the film has been met with mixed reviews but has been partially met with praise for its (as some term) ambitious and daring approach. The film has garnered good reviews so far with emphasis on the strong performances that the film’s entire cast engaged in, especially Vikram.
